ISL’s E&SD has been conducting NRC-sponsored TRACE/SNAP user training workshops since 2005. Workshop attendees typically include NRC personnel and domestic and international code users with experience levels ranging from novice to expert. ISL trainers provide an overview of the code theory and models, a discussion of the input requirements, and a description of the typical problems, applications, and design-basis events that the code was developed to simulate. The workshops are held in facilities where users can run the code applications and obtain hands-on experience. Users learn the mechanics of submitting TRACE simulations and performing restarts from within the SNAP environment, which includes configuring and using animation masks for visualizing the results.
